Cold Calling

Want to know the best cold calling line?

As I have said for several years, "the words exist, some assembly required..."™

I was reviewing my weekly LinkedIn updates.  I saw something that caught my eye – cold calling.  DISCLAIMER: I don’t cold call!

I am rather a student of language and what words can make a difference with people.  This article typifies what I study.

By making a subtle change in the question a caller makes the response or conversion increases.

This got my attention and my language skills are altered – read the article here

Perspective on rocks

Perspectives on life

As I work with people I see perspectives others often miss.  What is a perspective?  Consider this is your view from your vantage point.  Your perspective is impacted or filtered through your life and your life events.

Look at these four pictures – how would you define or describe these images?

Perspective A

Perspective B

Perspective C

Perspective D

It's a rock?

This is clearly a ROCK!  What is all of this about “perspective”?

The exercise is more about beginning to notice you have a view.  Other people have a view too.  This one rock is many things based on each other’s perspectives.

I use this as a door stop (perspective D).  Some folks see this as a decorative rock (perspective B).  Clearly this is a paperweight (perspective C) and lastly this is simply a rock (perspective A).

What else is this?  When I had this experience a group of teens had determined these to be toys.  Toys that they used to throw at rocks on a freeway, which ultimately became a murder weapon.

In life, your perspectives are what can get in the way of effective communication.

Set your mind to it

I was a the 21st Century Democratic club meeting on Friday, November 13, 2015.  An amazing conversation about homelessness, the financial impact and what we can do to move about and beyond homelessness.  Jennifer Loving of Destination Home spoke.  Very engaging.  I spoke up that none of the solutions will take three years.  They can all be accomplished in 24 hours – Set your mind to it!

We can accomplish anything – Set your mind to it.

  • We can end homelessness – if we set our mind to it.
  • We can build shelters for people in record time – if we set our mind to it.
  • We can feed the world – if we set our mind to it.
  • We can cure diseases – if we set our mind to it.
  • We can end terrorism – if we set our mind to it.
  • We can build a house in under three hours – if we set our mind to it.

What would you make happen – if you set your mind to it?

I feel so special – life as an introvert

The way I see life as an introvert is like this, at times I can be just as social as most people.  However, most of the time I am simply enjoying resolving life’s opportunities in my head.  Said differently, living as an introvert.

When people think they know me they would swear I am an extrovert.  They are mistaken.  Newly admitted to a group, I am usually quiet and very thoughtful.  I will open up with time.  I put this blog post under “Stigma” because sometimes it feels like being an introvert has some negative label or assessment.  Much like AD/HD or ADD has a stigma.  These are somehow misconstrued as mental health weaknesses.

I beg to differ.  Once people know me they really like what I bring to the relationship, community or group.

Today an article on Huffington Post sparked my sharing.  The article is about highly successful introverts.  I bet a high number of them also have the markings or traits of AD/HD.

I entrust you with the opportunity to get to know me, I know I look forward to the same.

SEO or search engine optimization

This is one of the most tricky subjects in the area of Internet marketing.  Do you do it yourself (DIY), hire someone, ignore it all together or maybe let someone learn their way through at your expense?

DIY – sure you can take this on.  Is it the best use of your time?  Not likely unless SEO is your business.

Hire someone – how?  Tricky here too.  They all sound so knowledgeable.  I hired a guy who had subcontractors.  Not bad, but we did not seem to optimize for terms that mattered or that people were actually working for.  Go with caution.

Let someone learn at your expense?  Maybe a free intern?  Not sure this is good either.  If you make the wrong move you could end up in worse shape.

I was reading this article and thought you might find it useful.

I also know a friend of mine is making a difference with his clients – even signing some very large clients.

A Ben Franklin – in his words

“My way is to divide half a sheet of paper by a line into two columns; writing over the one Pro and over the other Con. Then during three or four days’ consideration, I put down under the different heads short hints of the different motives, that at different time occur to me, for or against the measure. When I have thus got them altogether in one view, I endeavor to estimate their respective weights; and where I find two, one on each side, that seem equal, I strike them both out. If I judge some two reasons con equal to some three reasons pro, I strike out five; and thus proceeding, I find where the balance lies; and if after a day or two of further consideration, nothing new that is of importance occurs on either side, I come to a determination accordingly.” –Benjamin Franklin

I found this language and quote on several websites, therefore it must be truly from Ben Franklin??

Master Mind Goal Setting

As I am working on my plan for riches and the universe aligns to support me with this…
In speaking with a group member yesterday we discussed goals, not as such, but as having that check written out that you deposit in the future.  Much like Jim Carrey did years ago.  The discussion was about writing that check for too *small* of an amount.
Today another member was sharing about a call he was on where they were strongly suggesting taking your goal and multiply be 3.  You are highly likely to exceed your original goal.
This brought up for me – BHAG!  This is a concept from the book, Built to Last.  It stands for Big Hairy Audacious Goals.
There is something to be said for creating a huge goal – shoot for the stars, you’ll certainly make it to the moon.
Back to my path to riches project!

Master mind context

all about the context we live our lives from

When I facilitate these master mind meetings I often lay a foundation for the meeting.  This past meeting we started by looking at the context for the meeting.  The master mind context must always be one of empowerment. We ended up with some eye-opening distinctions.  Take a look at this picture – what do you see?  What might you have questions about?  How would these words impact your daily life?

At future meetings we will start with the word context in one corner and elephant in the other corner.  We are committed to leaving no elephant unexposed.
